A woman who's passionate about latex fashion has paved the way for others by openly embracing her love for rubber.
Izabela Szymańska's journey with latex fashion began a decade ago when she discovered it through her boyfriend, who is now her husband. Initially, the 31-year-old wasn't quite taken by it, but that changed four years ago when she encountered Yves Saint Laurent's latex collection.
"I remember the first piece of latex clothing I bought – a custom-made pair of latex pants by the talented fashion designer Paweł Tumiłowicz," she shared. "Since I'm a big fan of suits, I had this idea to mix latex with classic styles, and it just clicked. That's when I really fell in love with latex and how it blends seamlessly with classic fashion."

As wearing latex can be a bold choice, especially in Poland where she lives, Izabela knew overcoming misconceptions would be challenging. She continued: "Latex fashion is often associated with erotica, BDSM, porn, kink, and fetish.

"Many people don't wear latex because they fear what others will say or they lack awareness of its potential as a legitimate fashion choice. Through my posts, photos, videos, and conversations with people worldwide, I teach and show others that latex is not only comfortable to wear when properly tailored but also a popular fashion statement."
Izabela quickly listed fashion houses and designers who have an open fondness for incorporating latex clothing into their collections. "Atsuko Kudo and House of Harlot are known for their glamorous latex creations," she said. "Even luxury brands like Versace and Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) have jumped on the latex train.
"Then there's Japanese designer Atsushi Nakashima, who mixes latex with traditional fabrics to create unique looks. AVELLANO, too, likes to blend latex with other materials for eye-catching outfits. And let's not forget celebs like David Beckham – they've given latex some street cred in the mainstream fashion scene. Even the legendary Alexander McQueen dabbled in latex designs."
Izabela acknowledged that latex fashion can be a bit pricey – especially when it comes to custom-made pieces. Her most splurge-worthy item thus far has been a latex catsuit.

Nevertheless, she's keen to point out that there are more budget-friendly options for everyday wear, like combining latex leggings with a latex shirt.
"Latex outfits usually have a higher price tag because of what they're made of," Izabela explained. "They're crafted from latex rubber, which comes from the sap of rubber trees (that's the natural latex) or made synthetically through chemical processes.
"Making latex clothing is a hands-on process. Each piece is usually custom-made to fit your body perfectly, which means a lot of careful cutting, glueing, and shaping goes into it."
Aside from the cost, caring for latex is also crucial, and Izabela recommends washing it with a gentle, oil-free liquid and rinsing it in water mixed with a silicone-based lubricant. "Taking good care of your latex clothing keeps it looking shiny and sleek, making sure it stays comfy and fresh by stopping sweat, oils, and bacteria from building up," Izabela added.
"Plus, it shields your latex from harm by sharp stuff, intense heat, and certain chemicals, and keeps it from discolouring when it gets too much sun or chemicals."

Izabela's passion for latex goes far beyond her own closet. As a TikTok and Instagram influencer, she's committed her social media platforms to "busting the myths" surrounding latex. "When I first dared to wear latex in public, I was hit with a wave of negativity," she admitted. "People openly poked fun at me, and I vividly remember walking down the street in my latex catsuit, hearing the laughter and whispers.
"I came close to hiding my love for latex, but thanks to the unwavering support of my boyfriend, I decided to dig deep and boost my self-confidence. I chose to open up to my followers about my latex passion and fight against the misconceptions surrounding it. Surprisingly, the more I shared my love for latex and dispelled the myths, the larger my following became."
Today, Izabela's latex-themed content has gone viral worldwide. "I genuinely see fashion as an art, a way to express our true selves," she said. "Before slipping into latex, I ponder whether to go full-on latex or blend it with classic styles. Latex has been a game-changer for me, smashing mental barriers and connecting me with others and the world. I've built self-confidence and unearthed my authentic self all thanks to latex."
